Support for College Students Managing Stress
Through its community giveback program, Panic Pouch is providing wellness resources to support students at the University of Nevada, Reno
RENO, Nev., Sept. 30, 2026 — Through its community giveback program, Panic Pouch has donated wellness kits to the Orvis School of Nursing at the University of Nevada, Reno. The kits will support student well-being initiatives through the school's Office of Inclusive Excellence and Belonging.
Earlier this year, Orvis purchased Panic Pouch kits for the “Practical Tools for Therapeutic Presence in Clinical Practice” Grand Rounds workshop with Renown Health. Through Panic Pouch’s community giveback program, which provides one donated kit for every five purchased, the purchase also generated additional kits that Orvis is now putting to use through its student wellbeing initiatives.
“The Panic Pouches gave students, faculty and practicing nurses a tangible way to put emotional regulation strategies into practice. Providing practical tools like these reinforces that supporting our own well-being is an important part of being fully present for our patients,” said Dr. Molly Kokenge, associate dean for strategic partnerships and practice at the Orvis School of Nursing.
Each Panic Pouch contains non-medicated sensory tools designed to engage different sensory pathways during moments of stress or anxiety, including a menthol inhaler, instant cold pack, spearmint gum and sour candies. For example, the kit’s cold pack is intended for application to the side of the neck, where research has found that cold stimulation can influence cardiac-vagal activity.
Dr. Tarnia Newton, associate dean for inclusive excellence and belonging, praised the donation. “These will be a wonderful resource for activities where we are creating intentional spaces for students to pause, connect, and take care of themselves.”
